ABOUT SABAM
Sabam is the Belgian association for authors, composers and publishers. It manages the rights of more than 43,000 members in 5 domains: music, film & television, theatre & dance, visual arts and literature. In 2020, Sabam distributed more than € 112 million in copyright royalties. In addition, it supported more than 700 local cultural initiatives that same year, through Sabam for Culture. More than 200 employees in Brussels are working every day to defend the rights of authors. In 2022, Sabam will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Petra Van Heddegem - Staff member Affiliations
Petra has been working at Sabam for 29 years, still in the same position, although the name and management of her department have changed many times in the meantime. “My job is very diverse”, she says enthusiastically.
“There are always enough new developments that keep my job interesting. For example, we constantly have to adapt our database to the changes in the artistic world. I am proud to be part of the Sabam family. There is a good bond between colleagues which sometimes even turns into a real friendship.”

Laurence has been a legal expert at Sabam since 2004. Two years ago she became Legal Compliance Manager.
“There are about ten of us in our legal department, divided over two teams. Our tasks are very diverse: from giving legal advice to our members to advice on contracts, taxation, disputes ... It’s very motivating. Moreover, our members come from all possible corners of the artistic world. Personally, I have a very eclectic taste when it comes to concerts, exhibitions and the like. That makes my work even more interesting.”
